Silvia Gutierrez Is January’s FCPS Parent Liaison of the Month!

S.GutierrezEach month a school-based parent liaison will be recognized for his or her service to the staff and families of FCPS. The January recipient of this new recognition is Silvia Gutierrez, parent liaison at Westlawn Elementary School.

Gutierrez is a valuable and impactful parent liaison and is a key member of the Westlawn Elementary School family. She works tirelessly to help the students, parents, and teachers at Westlawn and bridges the lines of communication through phone calls, written notes, and parent conferences and meetings. Gutierrez is always pleasant, calm, and ready to help.

Gutierrez initiates and organizes endeavors that benefit families such as the school’s Thanksgiving food basket give-away, coat drive, and Kristi’s Christmas programs. She also advocated for and helped establish the early literacy and family literacy programs at Westlawn. Both programs are free, interactive parenting education programs for Fairfax County families who have children from birth to five years of age.

Linda Ferguson, principal at Westlawn, states that Gutierrez “helps parents to realize how important their role and support are to their child’s success at school, and is a shining example of how integral parent liaisons are to successful school programs.”
